Where are they now?

New School Alumni 1988-1990

Japhlet Bire Attias

My name is Japhlet Bire Attias, I attended the NS in what must have been 1988, because it was before first grade or during the beginning of first grade and I was 6 or 7.

New School favorite memory:
I remember most of all one of the first things I saw, which was the big room with broken tape player and electronics to take apart. There was a girl that I loved being with, and we spent a lot of time, and were at a field trip to a big barn that we slept over at. I can't remember her name at the moment... imageI remember the big yard in the back with a big tree, and one day I found what I the time I imagined was a small fossil, and I liked that very much... I remember a big fence at the entrance, and that is about it.

What are your plans now?
I left Syracuse when I was 10 to live in Mexico (I am a citizen of Mexico as well), and spent middle school there, went to Florida for High School, then went back to Mexico afterwards, where I worked in the southern Carribean part for a year, then transferred to Central Mex where I worked as a musician. I then went to Minnesota, and worked in Minnepaolis for 5 years as a Spanish Teacher and also self produced my own CD. It is here that I left the guitar and picked up the Chapman Stick (www.stick.com). Afterwards I went to Mexico to start a CD promotion run, which has brought me in the last 3 months to Barcelona, Paris, Rouen, Amsterdam and Gouda, Sarajevo, Dubrovnik, 4 towns in Rumania and finally to Budapest, where I am living now after having decided I could not leave the most beautiful city I had ever seen... I am now just here developing my self, learning, and playing music, trying to explore the musical and artistic scene of Hungary.

Anything else you would like to add?
Thanks for making this page, and I hope to find more people on here soon... Take care! Oh, and I think the girl's name was Leia, Lehia or Lea. Not sure... :-)

New School AlumI am at currently at Syracuse University, halfway through my third year in the Industrial Design program here. And, although 21 straight years in the same city is becoming wearisome, I absolutely love my major and all the people that I've met, and am content here for now.

A favorite memory from the New School? Well, I must say I have a bunch. I will narrow it down to two. I remember once with my friend Mike - can't remember the last name but he was two years older and, as I remember it, we were inseparable and I believe he lived in Baldwinsville and had an earring - we found a discarded tire down by the road at the bottom of the hill. And we decided to take action. So we rolled it up to the huge tree near the school (well it was huge back when I was so little, and I don't know if it's still there) and we wanted to make a tire-swing. So we proceeded to illegally grab an enormous mound of yarn from inside (we got in trouble because we were afraid we wouldn't be allowed to make a swing, so we lied and said we were going in to use the bathroom). Nevertheless, we were successful enough to take one swing on it before it broke and plummeted to the ground.

New School Alumni visitA second memory is when there was a loft installed in the room (after my first year). Underneath we used to pretend we were on a boat (inspired, I believe, by a field trip to the Erie Canal museum). We had it all set up like a ship and we could play for hours (me, Mike, Gabe, Xander, and Danielle). Oh, and one more bonus memory! I remember we went on a crazy field trip once to a farm and stayed overnight. At the time it seemed really random and I don't remember exactly how it went or where it was, but I believe that there was a mother and a boy that lived there, and we explored every last square inch of that place. And it had an outhouse, which thoroughly intrigued us.
