Mary Cunningham is the school’s Educational Consultant. Mary, one of the school’s founders, has been instrumental in maintaining the school’s philosophy and purpose since 1988. Prior to The New School’s founding, Mary taught for 10 years at Syracuse Institute for Enabling Education, a model on which The New School was created. The staff and children at The New School are supported and enriched by other adults in the classroom, including a teacher assistant, parent volunteers, retired teachers, work study students from Syracuse University and student-teachers from LeMoyne and Syracuse University.

Rebecca started teaching at The New School in the fall of 1998 after graduating from Elmira College with a BA dual-degree in Mathematics and Secondary Education. In 2003, she graduated from LeMoyne College with her Masters in Elementary Education. In 2005, Rebecca had her first child and worked part time at The New School. Then in 2007, she moved from teaching at The New School to teaching at an Alternative High School at OCM BOCES where the philosophy of The New School remained a part of her teaching. Rebecca collaborated with The New School teachers to bring together her high school students with New School students on problem-solving science projects. She continued to participate in New School functions, and was on the Executive Committee at The New School while she taught at BOCES. Rebecca is now glad to be back at The New School where she started her teaching career 12 years ago!
